I was recently contacted by Grace Hill Media to begin doing some interviews, reviews and giveaways for different types of film projects, much to my delight since I have a history in acting, theatre and film and I love to get the inside scoop!
I really couldn’t have picked a better first project to be involved in with them or a better first person to interview! Last week I had the pleasure and privilege to view a sample of the new Little Angels DVDs (which released in Christian bookstores November 1st) AND interview Roma Downey who played Monica on Touched by An Angel for its 9 seasons!
To be honest, I had my reservations about both. For starters, there are a LOT of DVDs out on the market for preschoolers and they cover a wide variety of topics and ideas. I was doubtful about whether or not Little Angels could or even would stand out from the crowd. So, what was the verdict? I can honestly tell you that Little Angels stands alone- it is completely different from anything else I’ve seen! The concept is adorable and created by Phil Lollar who did Adventures in Odessy. The animation is sweet and colorful and the characters are endearing. But beyond all that, I love that these DVDs combine Bible lessons with life lessons (such as the value of hard work) AND also incorporate preschool-level learning of things such as a letters and animals. It sounds like a lot to pack in there but somehow they did it and they flow seamlessly.
They didn’t stop there though! Quite possibly my favorite thing about these DVDs is the Little Lessons with Roma segment at the end of each one. Basically, Roma sits down with a cup of coffee and talks to you mom-to-mom, giving ideas and inspiration of how you can use the lessons that were started on the DVD and take them even further with your children. I loved hearing her suggestions on things such as addressing your child’s fears and ultimately teaching them to trust God because He is always with them. It’s a little like hearing from, dare I say, an angel? 
Of course, my ultimate test had to be whether my boys would even enjoy the shows. Well, let’s just say that they have asked to watch it again every single day since they first viewed it last week (and it’s only a shortened sample copy!) AND my 2 1/2 year old, who typically is not a big TV watcher, sits riveted to the screen through the whole thing! They have already been asking for them for Christmas and repeatedly tell me how much they love them!

They currently have 2 DVDs out, ABCs and Animals, along with their accompanying CDs. Soon they are also releasing some really cute apps to help you take the learning from the DVDs even farther. Little Angels is really only beginning though. The plan is to continue to release more shows over the next few years along with accompanying products such as books, stuffed animals and a Bible, but I want to tell you about all that more this weekend! There is just so much to say that I thought I better split it into two posts.
